UNC Sweeps Tripleheader With Western Nebraska Community College

GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado softball squad tallied a tripleheader sweep over Western Nebraska Community College on Friday at the UNC Softball Field. UNC won by scores of 9-1, 7-1, 8-0. The contests will not count toward UNC's record on the season, since WNCC is not a four-year institution.

The Bears rolled to the easy victory in game one behind the power of senior Erin Peterson. Peterson cracked two home runs and tallied four runs batted in as UNC scored a 9-1 win. Senior Stacey Moon picked up the victory.

UNC scored a 7-1 win in game two behind the strong pitching of junior Stephani Miller. Miller limited the Cougars to six hits and pitched a complete game. Reserve Shannon Lamport came into the game in the fourth inning as a defensive replacement at first base and went 2-for-3 with a single and triple and scored two runs.

Head coach Linda Witt's squad then completed the tripleheader sweep with an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap. Junior transfer pitcher Danelle Saylor tossed the complete game one-hit shutout. Sayler gave up a fourth inning single to break up her no-hit bid.

The Bears' next action will be at home on March 6-7 as they host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. UNC and SUU will play a pair of doubleheaders in Greeley beginning at 11 a.m. each day.
