Marcovecchio earns Mountain Division POTW honor

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Northern Colorado freshman Melissa Marcovecchio was announced the PCSC Mountain Division Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Marcovecchio parlayed a three-triple game in the opener of a four-game series against Idaho State into an extraordinary weekend that saw her finish with a .563 average and five extra-base hits with seven runs batted in.

With the three triples, she improved upon her own single-season PCSC mark to 11, as the previous best was seven. Her 11 three-baggers also breaks a tie she was in for the nation’s most this season.

As it sits now, Marcovecchio has two more triples than Leah Taylor of Tennessee-Martin -- whose nine triples is second-most in the country.

In the series opener, an 11-10 come-from-behind win, the freshman from Broomfield, Colo. went 3-for-4 with the three triples and five RBI. In the third game of the series, another Bears’ victory, she went 3-for-5 with a double and two more RBI.

After the week, her .360 average and 25 RBI for the season are the second-best on the team.

The award is Marcovecchio’s first PCSC Player of the Week honor.
