The University of Northern Colorado softball team is now is full swing for the 2010 fall season. It all started at 6:30 in the morning Friday, August 27, on the turf football fields that are located right behind our softball field.

Our new coach Mark Montgomery announced to us that we would be running something called the "26 Minute Drill". Of course he had explained to us what it was, but we had no idea how this whole exercise was really going to go. We stepped on the line that morning as a team for the first time.

"This is where it all starts," Coach Montgomery yelled out.

Then he shouted, "Go!"

And we were off.

My name is Jamie Juelfs, and I am a senior pitcher for the Bears. I have been given the privilege of keeping our adoring fans up to date on what is going on behind the scenes with Northern Colorado softball. We've had a crazy schedule, so far,  filled with four days of 26 Minute Drills -- which we passed all four times with flying colors -- weights and conditioning, and practice.

Now this might not seem like that much, but when you throw in class and trying to have a social life things can start to get a little hectic.

The training room and the cold tub became daily desination spots for most of our team because half of us had no idea that it was even possible for us to be as sore as were, but we as a team have pushed through and started to mesh as a family already.

Our program has a whole new feel to it under Coach Montgomery, and it has showed not only in the way the new coaches approach us, but in the team and the attitude as well. We had our first team practice on Wednesday, Sept. 1, and we could all feel the excitement.

Everything is so unknown to us all, and to some extent that brings us together because at this point it doesn’t matter if you are a freshman or a senior, because it is new to us all, and we are all ready to hit the ground running.

The team can't wait to start playing and to continue to make a name for the Bears in Greeley and beyond. We hope to see all of you out and supporting our cause!

I will be writing stories all year about what is going on daily with the Bears, so make sure you make this a frequent stop through out your week! Hope to see you all at the fields!
