PORTLAND, Ore. -- Northern Colorado junior catcher Erin Wilkinson has earned her second career Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week award.
Wilkinson (Greeley, Colo./Windsor HS) shared the league's first Mountain Division honor of the 2011 season Tuesday with Portland State's Lacey Holm after leading the Bears on their opening weekend with a .400 batting average in six games.
She also had a double, a home run and six RBIs while recording a .667 slugging percentage.
Wilkinson had a hit in four of Northern Colorado's six games last week, including a pair of two-hit efforts at New Mexico State and against Minnesota. She finished 2-for-3 in the Bears' 12-4 win against the Gophers and helped Northern Colorado notch the highest single-inning run total of any PCSC team on opening weekend.
Her three-RBI effort against Minnesota also helped Northern Colorado improve to 2-0 all-time against the Big 10 program.
The victory kept the Bears from coming home from its first trip of the season without a win and gave it some momentum heading into a three-game series at New Mexico on Friday and Saturday Feb. 25 and 26.
"The kids played loose and confident against Minnesota and finally played closer to our true ability level," Northern Colorado coach Mark Montgomery said. "We now have a week-and-a-half off to regroup and correct some mistakes that hounded us this weekend. We are excited to rebound against New Mexico."
