The holiday season holds so much joy and happiness and time with family and friends. It is a time when family gets together to enjoy food, games and much more.
But for a college athlete the story is a little different.
This is our time to work.
I know it sounds bad, but, really, this is when it is "make it or break it" for college softball players. We work so hard over the course of the fall in lifting and conditioning and practice that it is really important that we work hard over the break, too.
Now, I'm not saying that we don't get time to hang out with our families or see friends, but me and my teammates have a responsibilies to ourselves, the team and the program to not take a step back when we're away from each other over winter break.
It makes it hard when you have so much free time and are able to sleep in and have no real set schedule. Working out on your own can be daunting and boring, but we all know that it is something that we must do to be the best team we can be.
When we return to school and to practice we will only have a short time before we start our season. I think that everyone is ready to get things started. I know I am. Stepping on that field again is all that I can think about, and I am ready to show everyone what we have been working for all preseason.
I am also excited to step on a field that doesn't have snow on it.
I know that all of our families and friends are ready to see us play as well and I would just like to say thank you to all the families that put up with us having to "work" over the holidays! It is all going to pay off when we head to our first tournament and come back with a winning series.
So, here we go UNC fans, the time has come for our season, and my team and I can't wait to see you out and about supporting us! See you soon!
