COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Jessie Schoepflin went 2-for-3 Sunday at the Demarini Invitational, and Kelli Henderson, Jessica McNabb and Erin Wilkinson each had singles, but Northern Colorado softball wasn't able to push any runs across in a 6-0 loss to Northwestern.
Schoepflin and Henderson led off Northern Colorado's half of the first inning with back-to-back singles, and Kailee Vessey walked a couple batters later to load to the bases. The Bears (7-21) stranded all three runners, though, and stranded a couple more in the bottom of the second inside the Dan Devine Pavilion at the University of Missouri.
Northern Colorado never really threatened again after that.
Northwestern (12-10) scored once in the second to take a one-run lead and then scored two in the fourth and three in the seventh.
The Bears, which will next play at home Saturday afternoon, March 27, in a doubleheader against instate-rival Colorado State, left 10 total runners on base in the loss.
Jamie Juelfs (2-9) started in the circle for NC and gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits in six and one-thirds of an inning. She struck out four and walked two before Henderson came on in relief for the final two batters.
