Van Lier Again Paces Bears At Lobo Balloon Fiesta

The Northern Colorado men's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Lobo Balloon Fiesta Classic Sunday in Albuquerque, N.M.

Sophomore Calix Van Lier again paced the squad, advancing to the quarterfinals of the ‘A' singles where he fell to fourth-seeded Jadon Phillips from New Mexico. In the back draw, Van Lier upset top seeded Andrew Reiff from conference rival Northern Arizona in straight sets (6-3, 6-1), posting a 3-2 record for the weekend.

In doubles action, Van Lier partnered with freshman Travis Day and advanced to the semifinals, defeating the top-seeded Rob Pezzutto and Reiff from Northern Arizona 8-3 in the quarterfinals for a 3-1 mark on the weekend.

In ‘B' singles, freshman Ryan Lane went 2-3 including a victory over teammate Day. Freshman Robbie Edwards went 1-2, while freshman Conor Buchanan posted a record of 1-3. Sophomore Andre Lepine and Day both posted 0-3 marks in singles action.

Edwards and Lane paired in doubles action, going 0-3, as did Buchanan and Lepine.

Next on the schedule for the Bears is the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas scheduled for Oct. 21-25.
