Men's tennis comes up short in second Big Sky match

PORTLAND, Ore.-- The Northern Colorado men’s tennis team fell 5-2 to Portland State on Friday, Feb. 6, in its second Big Sky Conference match of the season at the Portland Tennis Center.

The Bears (0-4) nearly took the doubles point in the match after their No. 1 doubles tandem of Adam Perez and Calix Van Lier defeated Alex Hart and Chris Rice, 9-8 (7-5). However, NC’s No. 2 team of Jordan Boecker and Clay Mundell fell short against Jeff Cero and Alex VanDerschelden, 9-7.

In singles action, Northern Colorado's Andy Green (No. 4) outlasted Cero 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to attain his first victory of the season.

Also, Mundell (No. 5) survived Branislav Valach 6-2, 4-6, (10-7) to secure the Bears' last victory of the day.

Northern Colorado will look to achieve its first team victory of the 2009 season against Portland at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7
