This Week
The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team will play in its second tournament of the fall season on Monday and Tuesday. The Bears will compete at the Purple and Red Invitational, hosted by the University of Utah and Weber State University, and held in Layton, Utah at the Valley View Golf Course.

The field is 16 strong and includes Weber State, Utah, Boise State, Cal Poly, Cal Northridge, Gonzaga, Hartford, Idaho, Idaho State, Portland, Sacramento State, San Francisco, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming.

Last Time Out
Northern Colorado finished play at the 38th Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sept. 10 where it ended after the first day, in 15th place overall at the competitive event.

The event was highlighted by team and individual record scores, as Xavier claimed the team title with a tournament-record three-round total of 845 (-19); the Musketeers topped Colorado State, the leader after Day One, by nine strokes. Individually, XU's Jason Kokrak was medalist honors with a three-round record score of -12, three strokes ahead of Nevada's Jared Becher.

The Bears finished the team competition tied for 15th with regional rival Wyoming and in-state foe Colorado-Colorado Springs.

Junior Eric Higgins was the top finisher for Northern Colorado, shooting a final round 73 (+1) to finish at 222 (+6) for the three-round event. Senior Kyle Sullivan was 54th (+7), sophomore Jordan Ensrud finished 61st (+8), senior Jon Stecher was 67th (+9) and sophomore Derek Hofmeister was 92nd (+18).

National Rankings
Northern Colorado finished the 2005-06 season ranked 102nd nationally out of 292 total Division I teams by Golfweek. The Bears were ranked 99th at the end of the fall season, and were 93rd following the 2004-05 season. Golfweek rankings for 2006-07 have not been released yet.

Next Up
The Bears are back in action on Oct. 8-9 when they compete at the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern University and held at the Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. Northern Colorado head coach Wally Goodwin was the head coach at Northwestern from 1981-87.
