June 18, 2008

GREELEY, Colo. - University of Northern Colorado freshman-to-be Kory Harrell today claimed the championship title at the Colorado Golf Association (CGA) Junior Boys' Stroke Play Championship. Harrell signed with the Bears last fall and will begin classes in August.

Harrell shot a three-round total of 209 (67-72-70) for seven-under par to win the title by one stroke over Branden Barron.

"This is an extremely big win for Harrell," said Northern Colorado head men's golf coach Chuck Scheinost. "This will hopefully give him a lot of confidence heading into our season, as a lot of big name players have won this tournament in the past. I believe today is a good step forward for the Northern Colorado program."

Harrell was just one of five players to finish the tournament at Raccoon Creek Golf Course under par.
