Las Cruces, N.M. - The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team today finished play at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State, in 13th place after shooting a three-round total of 883 (292-289-302).
Senior Eric Higgins led the Bears after shooting a one-under par 212 (68-72-72) to finish 10 strokes off the lead. Derek Hofmeister placed in a tie for 56th after three identical rounds of 74 to tally a 222 and Ron Alford tied for 63rd with a three-round total of 224 (74-72-78). Freshman Stephen Bidne tied for 75th place after carding a 227 (76-73-78) and Josh Berrelez was disqualified in the third round.
Sergio Franky of Texas Tech was the individual winner, notching an 11-under par 202 (69-68-65), which helped lead the Red Raiders to the team title. Texas Tech combined for an 831, 21-under par (274-283-274) to win by four strokes over Texas-Arlington.
