Bears Move Into Second Place at Independent Championships

WINDSOR, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team used a strong second day of play to jump into second place at the NCAA Division I Independent Golf Championships, held at Pelican Lakes Golf and Country Club.

The Bears finished Saturday with a team score of 280, seven strokes better than tournament-leading Sacramento State, pulling Northern Colorado to within six shots of the Hornets, who have a team score of 570.

Kyle Burns shot the Bears' hot round Saturday, carding a five-under par 67, tied for the best round on the day.

Eric Higgins shot a -3 69, tying him with Burns for fifth place overall.

Kyle Sullivan and Jonathan Stecher had even par rounds for Northern Colorado, and Derek Hofmeister capped the team's efforts with a round of 75.
