Bisogno leading the way for men's golf in season-opener

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Senior Nick Bisogno fired a 3-under-par 69 Monday during the first round of the Washington State Snowman Getaway to help Northern Colorado finish the first day of its 2011 spring schedule in a tie for 11th with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. 

Bisogno (Olathe, Kan.) followed up with a 3-over 75 in round two to end the day with 144 strokes overall and in a tie for 11th individually with four other competitors at the par 72, 7,218-yard Whirlwind Golf Club.

Teammate Stephen Bidne (St. Paul, Minn.) is only four strokes behind Bisogno (149;+5) and is tied for 34th overall. He shot a 4-over 76 in the first round but improved by three strokes with a 1-over 73 in the second round.

Ryan Boshoven's 158 (+14), Troy Sidabras' 159 (+15) and Jake Hutton's 160 (+16) put the Bears at 607 strokes for the day, just 14 behind eighth-place Utah State (593) in the 15-team field.

Missouri's Emilio Cuartero sits atop the individual leaderboard, and his Tiger teammates set the pace Monday with a 560 team total. Cuartero carded a 1-under 71 in the opening round and then fired a 7-under 65 for an 8-under day.

Mizzou has a 19-shot advantage (-16) over British Columbia and Idaho, which are both at 3-over par (579). Washington State's "A" team and Missouri-Kansas City are each a shot back of second place (580; +4).

The Bears' season-opening tournament will conclude tomorrow with 18 holes. A shotgun start is schedule to begin at 7:45 a.m.
