ERIE, Colo. -- Despite a strong performance from Troy Sidabras and a good first round by the team, the Northern Colorado men's golf squad finished 12th Tuesday at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite at Colorado National Golf Course.
Overall, the Bears shot a 910 (+46), finishing nine strokes behind Wyoming for 11th place. The team squandered a good start, though, finishing the first round in seventh after shooting a 297 (+9) on Monday.
But even in a productive overall first round, the Bears shot 8-over par on the final hole of the round.
Individually, Northern Colorado was led by Sidabras, who had the second-lowest single round in the tournament with his first-round 4-under-par 68. Sidabras shot a 2-over-par 74 in round two and finished the first day in a tie for second place.
Sidabras' final round was the most difficult, as he shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish with a combined score of 218 (+2) and in a tie for 18th place.
"I was really proud of the guys in the first round," Northern Colorado coach Chuck Scheinost said. "We got out to a really good start and Troy did a fantastic job, shooting a 68 in that opening round."
Nick Bisogno finished the tournament in a tie for 55th place after shooting a combined 228 (+12). His best round came in the first, where he shot a 2-over-par 74.
Ryan Boshoven struggled in the first round, shooting a 7-over-par 79, but he put together a pair of 4-over-par 76s in rounds two and three to finish in a tie for 63rd. He shot a combined score of 231 (+15).
Steve Bidne finished in a tie for 69th place, shooting a 233 (+17), while Alberto Dell'Anna shot a 237 (+21) and finished in 78th.
"I thought overall we just don't seem to have the confidence we had last year at this time," Scheinost said. "Hopefully we can get out and start building some confidence over these next few weeks before the spring."
The Bears will get a chance to redeem themselves in just a few days when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to participate in the William H. Tucker Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1 and 2.
