GREELEY, Colo. -- Northern Colorado coach Chuck Scheinost announced Wednesday the signing of Jake Hutton to his men’s golf program.

Hutton, a senior this season at Long Beach (Calif.) Woodrow Wilson High School, will join the Bears this fall and, with the departures of seniors Adam Joiner and Rich Lash, give Scheinost eight players on his 2010-10 squad.

“We’re excited to add Jake to our program,” Scheinost said. “We’re looking for him to step in right away and help. He’s a really talented kid who I’ve liked from the first day I saw him play.”

Hutton will come to Greeley after a standout career for Wilson and coach Jeff Evans. He was varsity team captain for the Bruins this season and was named an All-Moore League player in both 2007 and 2009. He finished second in the Moore League Individual Tournament this season, and helped the Bruins to a tie for second in this year’s California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) team finals and a tie for fifth in the CIF Team Regionals in 2009.

Hutton, who also has won myriad junior events, finished his high school career with a 73.13 scoring average as a senior, and will graduate in June as a member of Wilson’s High Honor Roll and a Distinguished Scholar.

“Jake is going to do some good things for us in his time as a Bear,” Scheinost said. “With a senior-dominated lineup next season, we’re planning on him being a featured player in our program in the years to come.”
