Men's Basketball Falls To Iowa 59-47

IOWA CITY, Iowa.- The Northern Colorado's men's basketball team (1-2) lost a low-scoring affair to Iowa (2-0) by the score of 59-47 on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Bears were led by senior Sean Taibi's 11 points. Taibi also tied for the team lead with six rebounds along with junior Jabril Banks. Banks reached double figures in points for the second time in three games with 10. Thanasi Panagiotakopoulos contributed nine points and a game-high six assists. The NC bench, which had been a strong point in the first two games, were outscored 10-9. For the game, Northern Colorado shot 36% (18-50) and were only 3-for-14 from beyond the arc.

Iowa received a game-high 20 points from guard Jeff Peterson and 14 points and six rebounds from Dan Bohall. Boshall shot well from the line and was 7-for-8. Kurt Looby pulled down a game-high seven rebounds in the Hawkeye's win.

The Bears started the game trailing 5-2 but tied the game up on freshman Taylor Montgomery's layup. A 14-6 Iowa run saw then take control midway through the first half. NC fought back and got within three just before the break on Taibi's made free throw. NC still went into the half trailing 26-20 despite a strong effort to close the gap. Banks scored six of his points in the first half for Northern Colorado.

After the break, NC fought back to tied the game up at 28 on Taibi's jumper. Taibi, after a made Iowa free throw, raced down the court with a layup to give the Bears a one-point advantage. After another brief Hawyeyes run ,Taibi again tied the game up on a layup. From that point on Iowa's offense outscored the Bears 19-7 to take the game 59-47.

Northern Colorado will now welcome in Denver for the home opener on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:05 p.m.
