Archibeque Scores 23 points in Win over Sacramento State
Feb. 1, 2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Kirk Archibeque led five players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 23 points as the University of Northern Colorado men's basketball team rallied for an 84-81 Big Sky Conference victory over Sacramento State.
The Bears (4-19, 2-9) were down by 39-35 at the break, but picked up the lead five minutes into the second half on a Sean Taibi jumper. Though the Hornets (8-14, 3-6) would tie the score again at 63-63 with just under five minutes left to play, Thanasi Panagiotakopoulos drained six consecutive free throws in the final 30 seconds to ice the game.
The victory avenged an earlier home loss the Bears suffered at the hands of the Hornets on December 30, when they fell into an early hole and couldn't climb out, despite a season-high 24 points from Archibeque.
On Wednesday, Archibeque also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season while Dwayne Birden finished with 14 points, Taibi 13, Panagiotakopoulos 11 and Tommie Clark 10. Panagiotakopoulos also had eight assists.
The Bears continue their road trip with a Thursday game at Weber State. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
