Unruh selected to play with East Coast All-Stars

GREELEY – Many 22-year-olds don't even know where Estonia is, let alone get an opportunity to go there for a week, but that's exactly the opportunity presented to Northern Colorado senior guard Tate Unruh.

Unruh (Branson, Mo.) was recently selected to the East Coast All-Star team and will play in the Four Nations Cup in Tallinn, Estonia. Unruh is one of the top three-point shooters in NCAA Division I, ranking 21st in each of the last two years in three-point field-goal percentage.

He and the rest of the team will report to Fordham University in New York for training camp on July 20 and 21 and will arrive in Estonia on July 22. The All Star team will play an exhibition game against an Estonian Club on July 23 before facing the top FIBA National Teams of Belarus, Estonia and the Slovak Republic from July 25 to 27.

"Our basketball family is extremely happy for Tate," Northern Colorado head coach B.J. Hill said. "He has worked extremely hard to put himself in a position to earn a spot on a team full of very talented players from some of the best programs in the country. Tate is a great player, an even better person, and will represent our University and conference in a first-class manner."

The Republic of Estonia is a country in northern Europe bordered by Latvia and Russia, as well as the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. The team will get a chance to explore the capital, Tallinn, on the team's first day in the country before beginning play.

Guy Rancourt, head coach of Lycoming College, will serve as the head coach of the All Star team. In addition to Unruh, Russ Smith (Louisville), Eron Harris (West Virginia), Mike Gbinije and Rakeem Christmas (Syracuse), Jarrodd Uthoff (Iowa), Jabrille Williams (Binghamton), Pillip Nolan (UConn), Kadeem Batts (Providence), Tom Knight (Notre Dame) and Mike Rudy and Justin Miller (Lycoming) will all represent the United States.
