SOME STORY LINES
- The Bears are looking for revenge tonight after losing 71-62 to the Falcons last season in the championship of the first Air Force Classic. Will Figures (19 points) is the only returning Bears player who scored in double figures.
- Northern Colorado started its series with the Falcons with a pair of wins in 1957, but the Bears have lost 11 straight ever since.
- The Bears are playing their third and final game tonight against a Mountain West Conference team (Colorado State, San Diego State and Air Force). Northern Colorado is 0-2 thus far against MWC teams.
- Northern Colorado’s Taylor Montgomery and Air Force’s Grant Parker played together at Denver’s Cherry Creek High School. Both had standout careers for coach Mike Brookhart.
SERIES
HISTORY
- The Bears and the Falcons first met during the 1957 season, when they played twice. Northern Colorado won both games.
- It’s been bad news for the Bears ever since, with Air Force reeling off 11 straight victories, including last year’s 71-62 triumph.
- The teams have played four times in Greeley, eight times at Air Force Academy and once in Denver.
- This is just the Falcons’ second game in Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. Their first came on March 1, 1978.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
- Head coach Jeff Reynolds enters his third season overall with Air Force in 2008. He was an assistant under previous coach Jeff Bzdelik (now at Colorado) before taking over prior to last season. The Falcons were 16-14 in Reynolds’ first season.
- At 5-2, Air Force is off to its fourth best start in program history after seven games. Only three Air Force teams (1983, 2006 and 2007) have been 6-1.
- Senior Matt Holland entered the week leading the Mountain West Conference in field-goal percentage (68.6) and three-point percentage (60.7).
