Hashimoto Posts Perfect Day At Northeast Collegiate Duals

TROY, N.Y. - Senior Kenny Hashimoto (141 pounds) led the Northern Colorado wrestling team with four victories at the Northeast Collegiate Duals as the Bears dropped all four matches to No. 6 Maryland, Hofstra, American and Binghamton in their first duals of the 2009-10 season.

Hashimoto was the only Bear to win multiple matches, as senior Tony Mustari (125), freshman Justin Gonzales (149), junior Justin Gaethje (157), sophomore Tanner Weiks (165) and sophomore Brandon Kammerzell (174) each went 1-3.

In the first round, the Bears met an extremely talented Maryland team, currently ranked sixth by InterMat Wrestle. Hashimoto got the only team points for Northern Colorado, winning a 14-7 decision over No. 7 Alex Krom at 141 pounds.

In the second round Hashimoto, Gonzales and Weiks won decisions giving the Bears nine team points, but it was not enough as Hofstra was victorious 27-9. Weiks defeated 18th-ranked P.J. Gillespie 4-3 at 165 pounds for his first nationally ranked victory of the year.

Hashimoto again won the only bout in the third round against American as he won a 15-3 major decision over Jordan Lipp. The team score against American was 40-4.

The Bears won four of 10 weight classes in the final round against Binghamton but it wasn't quite enough as NC fell 28-14. Mustari won a 6-1 decision for his lone victory of the day, while Hashimoto remained perfect on the day with a 20-3 technical fall victory over Anwar Goeres. Gaethje got his lone win of the afternoon with a 12-6 decision over Justin Lister and Kammerzell won a 4-0 decision over Anthony Esposito.

Northern Colorado next takes the mat at the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational on Dec. 4-5 in Primm, Nev.
