LINCOLN, Neb. -- Freshman transfer Kevin O'Brien picked up his first win in a Blue & Gold singlet as the Northern Colorado wrestling team lost to its second-straight Big 12 opponent, falling 37-9 at Nebraska on Sunday afternoon.

O'Brien (165 pounds) won a 6-3 decision in the second bout of the day over James Nakashima to tie the team score at 3-3, but the next seven bouts went to Nebraska, including a pair of forfeits at 184 and 197 pounds. Nebraska forfeited at 149 pounds for the 37-9 final.

"It was a tough day today," said Head Coach Ben Cherrington. "As a team we were not ready to win matches. We showed an okay team way too much respect and we paid for it. We have a month to get better and I hope I have a group of guys who realize there is a lot of work to do between now and March 6th."

The Bears are now 1-12 in duals this season and have lost five straight.

Northern Colorado returns to Western Wrestling Conference action on Feb. 12, hosting Air Force at 7:00 p.m. The Bears final three duals of the season are all in Butler-Hancock as they also host South Dakota State (Feb. 14) and Utah Valley (Feb. 17) before heading to the NCAA West Regional on March 6.
