LA QUINTA, Calif. - The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team was fourth after round one and slipped back to 11th place after round two of The Prestige at PGA West which is being hosted by Stanford and UC Davis. The Bears combined for a score of 293 in the morning round and were just five strokes behind the leader and were ahead of three-time defending champion UCLA. But Northern Colorado combined to shoot 12 strokes higher in the afternoon round and now find themselves 29 strokes behind leader Stanford. The Bears are, however, just three strokes out of sixth place which is currently held by Colorado and Kansas. Individually, sophomore Jordan Ensrud and junior Tom Gempel are tied for 22nd overall with scores of 147 (+3). Ensrud shot a 1-under 71 in the morning round and was at 76 (+4) in the afternoon. Senior Kyle Sullivan fired rounds of 72 and 79 and is 42nd (+7), Eric Higgins is 48th (+9) and Jon Stecher is 67th (+14). UC Irvine's Jay Choe (-7) leads Stanford's Zack Miller by one stroke in the individual competition. Final round play at The Prestige begins Tuesday morning.
