LAYTON, Utah.- Weber State took the first-ever American Sky Championship title with the low score of 570, while finishing fifth overall. Boise State was the official champion of the Purple & Red Invitational with their score of 567. Boise State's Troy Merritt was the individual tournament champion with a score of 134, including a seven under on the final day (65). Senior Eric Higgins paced the Bears with a two-round score of 72.5 and finished tied for 22nd place at 145 (+1). Higgins shot a one over par (73) in the final round. Meanwhile, teammate Derek Hofmeister finished seven strokes behind and tied for 61st overall with a 152. Freshman Steve Bidne had a solid final day with 73 and finished with a 152 and tie for 61st. Senior Kyle Burns was 88th (+14) and junior Josh Berrelez placed 94th (+16). Northern Colorado is back in action on Sept. 24-25 when they travel to Layton, Utah to compete in the Purple & Red Invitational hosted by Weber State and the University of Utah.
