Men's Golf Sits In Eighth After Day One Of Championship

Layton, UTAH - The University of Northern Colorado men's golf team sits in 17th place at the Purple & Red Invitational and eighth in the first-ever America Sky Men's Golf Championship after 18 holes. The tournament has been shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.

Senior Eric Higgins leads the Bears, shooting an even par 72 and is in a tie for 25th place, while Derek Hofmeister sits in a tie for 61st after shooting a 76. Freshman Stephen Bidne is in a tie for 85th place after a 79, while Kyle Burns shot an 81 and is tied for 95th.

Sacramento State is currently tied for fourth in the Purple and Red with Boise State at 289, but the Hornets lead the America Sky Championships. Sac State is one shot ahead of Weber State and two shots ahead of UTPA. Binghamton is also just three shots back, while Hartford sits six strokes behind the Hornets. Rounding out the AmSky are Utah Valley State College at 297, Idaho State at 304 and Northern Colorado at 308.

The double invitational concludes on Tuesday with tee times beginning at 7:40 a.m.
