GREELEY, Colo. - There's a New Balance to the University of Northern Colorado football program, and it was unveiled on Saturday at the 2006 Fall Sports Media Day in the High Plains Club at Nottingham Field.

Senior running back and All-American candidate Andre Wilson showed off the new Bears' home uniforms this season, which were custom-designed by New Balance. They feature big gold and white stripes on the sleeves, as well as bold, white numbers on the front, back and top shoulders. Another change to the uniforms this season is the removal of player names on the back, as well as the addition of "Northern Colorado" on the front.

"We don't have names on the back of our jerseys this year," said head coach Scott Downing. "We feel like we're a family. You'll know them by their number if they make big plays. The name on the front is more important than the name on the back."

Wilson also showed off brand new New Balance cleats, which are custom-made to fit each player. The Bears will wear their traditional vegas gold pants at home, which this year feature an "NC" on the left hip.

"I think everybody is excited about the new look," Downing said. "We're very happy that New Balance has stepped up to sponsor us. We went with a very traditional, classic look. I think it's something that will last for many years."
