Arizona Takes First Two Games in Series With Bears![]() March 24, 2007

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Northern Colorado baseball dropped the first two games of its three-game series at Arizona, falling 12-0 and 6-2 on Saturday. In the first game, the Bears (7-12), were three-hit by the Arizona pitching staff, and the Wildcats (20-6) put eight runs on the board in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away. Northern Colorado left two runners on base in both the fifth and sixth innings, but failed to get a run across, stranding six on the day. Zach Brockman, John Ray and Adam Symons had hits for the Bears, while Chris Reap (2-3) took the loss, allowing nine runs in 6 1/3 innings, while striking out four and walking two. In the second game, the Bears got on the board early when Kevin Sandberg opened the second with a single through the right side. After Sandberg advanced on a wild pitch, Ray reached on an error by the Wildcats' second baseman. Two batters later, Symons drove both home with double to center, putting the Bears up 2-0. Arizona tied the game after putting a run on the board in both the third and fifth innings, and took the lead after scoring two more in the sixth. Grady Gorman, Ray and Anthony Garcia had hits for the Bears. Dan Kazell got the start and allowed just two runs in five innings before giving way to Tyler Pearson (0-4), who gave up four runs in two innings. The Bears close out the series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. MT first pitch. |
