Baseball Shut Out In Series Finale

LINCOLN, Neb. - In the fourth and final game of the series against Nebraska, the Northern Colorado (5-8) baseball team was shut out, 7-0 Monday afternoon.

 

Nebraska (10-2) scored one run each in the second, third and fourth innings and added two in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth for a total of seven runs on 12 hits.

 

Northern Colorado tallied five hits in the game, scoring no one and both teams had two errors.

 

Senior Adam Symons, hitting in the leadoff position for the first time this year, had two of the team's hits and both were doubles, going 2-for-4, while senior Andy Mees, junior Kevin Sandberg and junior Cody Henry each notched one hit.

 

Senior T.R. Keating pitched 5.2 innings for the Bears, allowing five runs on eight hits. He also struck out four and had no walks and now has just one base on balls in 17.2 innings pitched this season with 16 strikeouts. Matt Buck pitched just 0.1 of an inning with one hit and one walk surrendered in three batters faced.  Sean Peery, seeing action in his sixth game this year, threw one inning giving up one run on one hit with two walks, while senior Chad Murray was on the hill the final inning, allowing one run on two hits.

 

Nebraska's Aaron Pribanic pitched a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowing zero walks. Leadoff hitter DJ Belftone led the Huskers going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI.

 

The Bears return to the field on Friday, March 14 at Missouri State in a three-game series.
