Baseball Drops First Road Game of the Season![]() BOXSCORE: at New Mexico ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In its first road game of the 2009 season, the Northern Colorado baseball team dropped a 10-1 decision at New Mexico to move to 4-1 on the year, while the Lobos improve to 5-2. New Mexico scored two runs each in the first, second, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, while Northern Colorado scraped out one in the top half of the eighth. "New Mexico is a very good team," said Head Coach Kevin Smallcomb. "We have to bring our ‘A' game to beat them, but we didn't do that today. We didn't pitch very well, we didn't catch very well and their pitcher did a great job." New Mexico hurler John Hesketh threw seven innings, allowing just three hits, while walking just one Bear and striking out eight to win his second game of the year. Northern Colorado scattered just five hits on the afternoon by five different players with two for extra bases as junior Mike Raudenbush tripled in the first and senior Andy Mees doubled in the fourth inning. Senior Erik Hegstad had the lone RBI for the Bears as Adrian Schenk scored after a pinch-hit single in the eighth. Junior Joe Sawicki pitched the first five innings for Northern Colorado, giving up six runs on nine hits, walking four with no strikeouts. James Quisenberry came on in relief, throwing the final three frames. He allowed four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out one. The Bears also committed three errors, but did manage to strand 16 Lobos base runners. The two teams square off in a double header tomorrow beginning at noon. |
