OGDEN, Utah - The Big Sky Conference launched its second annual "Sky Line" prediction contest on www.bigskyconf.com on Thursday.
Fans will once again be able to predict the order of finish in the 2006 Big Sky Conference football standings. The final results will be revealed along with the preseason coaches' and media poll at the Big Sky Conference Summer Kickoff on July 17.
In 2005, more than 450 Big Sky Conference football fans from 29 states, the District of Columbia, Germany and Canada entered ballots. The fans predicted Montana to win the league title. Eastern Washington, Montana State and Montana tied for the regular-season title, but Eastern Washington received the league's automatic bid to the playoffs.
No one correctly predicted the order of all eight teams.
The 2006 contest will be even tougher, as Northern Colorado enters the fray. Although the Bears won't be eligible to win the conference title or compete in the Division I-AA playoffs in 2006, they will play a full league schedule. Northern Colorado will appear in the standings, but an asterisk will be placed next to their name denoting they are not eligible to win the league title. For Sky Line, that won't matter. If you think UNC will have the best conference record, then pick the Bears first.
All ballots which correctly predict the order of finish of all nine teams will be entered in a drawing for a "I-AA Playoff Package." The winner will receive free airfare, lodging and a ticket to a I-AA first-round playoff game featuring a Big Sky Conference team. The winner will also receive Big Sky Conference merchandise.
In order to compete, fans must submit a ballot at www.bigskyconf.com by July 1, 2006. Fans will be allowed just one ballot. Name, address and a contact phone number must be provided on the ballot.
Updates on the fan poll will be posted weekly at www.bigskyconf.com.
