Football Announces 2007 Schedule

May 17, 2007

GREELEY, Colo. - Five home games in Greeley and a season opener in Honolulu highlight the University of Northern Colorado's 2007 football schedule, announced by head coach Scott Downing.

Northern Colorado will open the season Sept. 1 at the University of Hawai'i before the season home opener on Sept. 8 against Chadron State. The Bears then play four straight road games against San Diego (Sept. 15), Big Sky foe Northern Arizona (Sept. 22), Cal Poly (Sept. 29) and Idaho State (Oct. 6).

"The 2007 schedule will prove to be a challenge," said Head Coach Scott Downing. "With four straight games away from Nottingham Field and Northern Colorado fans, this team will be tested early and often. The second year in the Big Sky Conference should be an exciting time for everyone associated with our program."

Oct. 13 the Bears return home to face Weber State on Homecoming before traveling to Missoula to take on defending Big Sky Champions, Montana on Oct. 20. The next Saturday, Montana State comes to Nottingham Field and the final road contest of the year takes place Nov. 3 at Eastern Washington.

Northern Colorado concludes Big Sky action with the final two games at home, Nov. 10 against Sacramento State and Nov. 17 against Portland State.

The Bears return 11 starters for 2007, as well as senior WR Andy Birkel. He finished with 50 receptions for 907 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2005 but missed all of the '06 campaign with an injury. Honorable mention All-Big Sky selections C Jake Gable, LB Asa Matthews and LB Cristian Sarmento also return.
