In January, 2011 Jon Boyer returned to his alma mater to coach quarterbacks and was elevated to offensive coordinator during the spring of 2012.

Boyer graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in May, 2002 after serving as the starting quarterback for the 2000 and 2001 teams.

Upon his graduation, Boyer was a strength and conditioning coach in Greeley before his first stint with the Bears coaching staff in 2004 and 2005. During those two years, Boyer served as the quarterbacks coach and received his master’s degree in sport and exercise science sport pedagogy.

In 2007, Boyer joined the Mesa State coaching staff, serving as the offensive coordinator as well as overseeing the coaching duties for the quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers.

Boyer is married to the former Vanessa Gates, who also received her master’s degree in education from Northern Colorado.
