PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Despite missing the final six games of the 2012 season with an injury, Northern Colorado senior linebacker Clarence Bumpas still has earned the respect of the national media.
Bumpas (Colorado Springs) on Monday earned a Second Team honor on the 2013 The Sports Network FCS Preseason All-America Team after registering 49 tackles through the first five games of 2012, which still ended the season as the fourth-most on the club. He also had three tackles for loss, one quarterback sack, one interception and one quarterback hurry during those five contests.
Eleven players on the preseason first team were selected to the 2012 FCS All- America first team which was announced last December. Another 24 from the second and third teams are back as well, marking the second straight year in which 35 players returned to the following season's preseason team.
Bumpas is one of 15 Big Sky Conference selections to the team, tied for second-most among leagues, trailing only the 17 picks from the Missouri Valley. The Southern Conference also had 15 amongst the three teams.
Bumpas had at least eight tackles in each of the first five games in 2012, notching double figures in three of the five. He also had 12 or more tackles in the final nine games of the 2011 season and was on the 2012 Buck Buchanan watch list.
