PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Northern Colorado junior linebacker Clarence Bumpas was selected to the Sports Network preseason All-America team released Monday.
Bumpas was honored on the defensive second team after leading the Big Sky Conference in tackles a season ago. He was one of 14 student-athletes from the league named to the three teams.
In his first season with the Bears in 2011, Bumpas recorded 145 total tackles and 10.5 tackles for loss. He also had three pass break-ups, two quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Bumpas notched double figures in tackles the final nine games of the year and had seven or more solo tackles five times.
His 145 total tackles is the most by a Northern Colorado player in the FCS era and his 13.18 tackles per game ranked fourth nationally.
Bumpas and the rest of the Bears begin practices for the 2012 season on August 2 and open the year at Utah on Aug. 30 in the first televised game on the Pac-12 Network. The Bears begin at home on Sept. 6 when they welcome Colorado Mesa to Nottingham Field.
