Getting to know: Brandon Owens

GREELEY, Colo. – Sunday was a day of rest for the Northern Colorado football team and Monday will be as well as Coach Earnest Collins Jr lets the team concentrate on the first day of school. The Bears return to the practice fields on Tuesday at 3 pm.

To celebrate the quickly approaching 2011 season, uncbears.com will be highlighting a different senior on the roster. Each senior will be asked a series of questions and then those same questions will be asked to a roommate or friend on the team, as well as another player of the same position to test how well they know each other.

The final senior to be “plagued” by questions was senior defensive back Brandon Owens. Roommate and fellow senior Dylan Orms and fellow defensive back Marcel Gibbons were also polled.

Owens started the last four games of the 2010 season at cornerback and is the top returning tackler for the Bears after notching 47. He also led the team with six pass break-ups and was one of six players to have 10 or more tackles in a game, totaling 11 at Montana State. The transfer from Colorado State originally hails from Bakersfield, Calif., and will graduate with a degree in sociology.

In the final set of questions for the year, Orms matched three to edge out Gibbons, who had two correct answers. The Bears begin the season on Sept. 3 when they host Lindenwood at 1:35 pm.
