Chapple earns national freshman honor

Late penalty ends Bears comeback
It looked like the Northern Colorado football team had the game won as sophomore quarterback Seth Lobato found senior wide receiver Patrick Walker for a touchdown with 3.6 seconds remaining, but the Bears were called for an illegal block and the final pass was deflected as Portland State held on for the 23-17 win.

Late turnovers prove costly at Eastern Washington
Turnovers in the second-half proved extremely costly for the Northern Colorado football team as they lost 48-27 at defending national champion Eastern Washington on Saturday. The Bears scored at least three points in every quarter but had two interceptions and one fumble in the second half to set up the Eagles.

Weather has huge affect on Champions Day
It was quite possibly the worst weather possible for a day set to celebrate a national championship. The University of Northern Colorado brought the 1996 Division II Football National Championship team back to campus, but the 2011 Bears were not able to overcome the cold, rain and wind as well as the visiting Sacramento State Hornets and lost 14-0.

The University of Northern Colorado football team dropped a 55-28 decision at #16/19 Montana on Saturday to fall to 0-5 on the season and 0-3 in Big Sky Conference play. The Bears and Griz (3-2, 2-1 Big Sky) played in front of 25,919 people, the fourth-largest crowd in Washington-Grizzly Stadium history.

Northern Colorado kicks off its sixth season in the Big Sky Conference at Idaho State on Saturday. The Bengals hold an 18-9 advantage in the all-time series, however the Bears have won the last three meetings between the teams. In 2009 in Pocatello, the Bears won 30-7, tying for the largest margin of victory in the series with the meeting in 1979. In Big Sky play, Northern Colorado is 3-2 against ISU, accounting for 60 percent of the team’s wins in conference action.

The Northern Colorado football team out-scored Colorado State 14-5 in the second-half, but the Rams were able to score 28 in the first half for the 33-14 victory. The meeting was the first between the two teams in 25 years.

With 1:10 remaining in the fourth quarter, sophomore kicker Dave Eden nailed a 25-yard field goal to put the Bears on top, 20-19 and seemingly lift the Bears to victory.
