Defense Has Three Named To Preseason All-Big Sky Team

Preseason Big Sky All-Conference Teams
OGDEN, Utah – Three defensive stars for the University of Northern Colorado football team have been tabbed to the Preseason Big Sky All-Conference team the conference announced on Monday. Seniors Korey Askew and John Eddy and junior Nick Hernon were all named in a vote by the league’s media.
A year ago, Askew and Eddy earned Second Team All-Big Sky honors in a vote by the league’s coaches, while Hernon was an honorable mention selection.
Askew, a cornerback from Denver, finished third on the team with 74 total tackles in 2009 and he tied for the team lead with three interceptions with a best 112 return yards. Askew also had two fumble recoveries for 41 yards and a team-best nine pass break ups.
Eddy, a linebacker from Greeley, was second on the team with 80 total tackles and led the club with 5.5 sacks, playing in just eight of the team's 11 games a season ago. He also had a team-best four forced fumbles and recorded four quarterback hurries on the year. Eddy was also a second-team pick during the 2007 season and sat out the 2008 season.
Hernon, a defensive end from Castle Rock, was second on the team with 5.0 sacks and 1/8 of his tackles were for loss as he notched 48 tackles on the season. He also led the Bears with eight quarterback hurries.
The 2010 season for Northern Colorado gets underway on Sept. 4 when the Bears host Adams State at Nottingham Field at 1:35 p.m.
