Throwers Continue To Break Records For Track & Field![]() Feb. 17, 2008
GOLDEN, Berg broke his own record in both the shot put and the weight throw, putting the shot 55-2.25 to finish second and threw the weight 54-10.25 to finish fifth overall and fourth among collegiate athletes. He breaks his own record of 54-7.25 in the shot put from last week at the Don Barrett Air Force Open and his own record of 54-8.25 in the weight throw from the Air Force Invitational earlier this season. For the men, freshman Josh Keahey, running in his first 400 meters of the season, won the event with a time of 51.71, while fellow freshman Terrence McGaughy was third overall and the second collegian in the 60 meters with a time of 6.89. Tyler Hoerner and Travis Stanford took the top two collegiate spots and were first and third, respectively in the 800 meters. Hoerner clocked a winning time of 2:00.86, while Stanford ran a 2:01.65. Senior Jeff Vaden was also victorious, winning the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.30, while Richard Mattison was fifth in 8.64. Vaden also placed third in the long jump with a season-best leap of 23-2.75. Tyler Short placed third in the triple jump after leaping 44-10.75, while Mattison also finished sixth in the long jump at 22-2.25. In the women's mile, Brianna Spletstoser finished eighth overall, but was the second collegian to cross the finish line, running a 5:32.10. Ashley Stec and Lauren Iseman placed fifth and ninth in the 800 meters with their times of 2:28.34 and 2:32.06, respectively. Freshman Kelly Coomes and Tali Slafter took third and fourth in the 60 meter hurdles after clocking an 8.86 and 8.93, respectively.
