2005: Division I All-Independent honorable mention selection ... played in 47 games, starting 35, at the designated hitter position ... after struggling as a junior and missing most of last season with an injury, Chacon had his finest season with the program in 2005 ... ranked first on the team in walks (20), second in triples (2), third in home runs (6) and sixth on the team in hitting (.285) and had career highs in virtually every offensive category ... named to the College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll on April 26 after a week to remember in which he hit .500 (8-for-16) with five runs, three doubles, six RBI, a .813 slugging percentage and registering three game-tying and/or game-winning runs ... started the week with a two-out, two-strike, two-run double in the Bears final at-bat at Air Force (Apr. 19) as the Bears scored four times in the inning to come from behind and win 6-5 ... later in the week he tripled in the seventh inning against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Apr. 22) to tie the game at two in a game the Bears would eventually win 6-2; ended the week by drawing a pinch-hit, bases loaded walk in the eighth inning against the Islanders (Apr. 23) to break a 9-9 tie on the way to a 10-9 UNC victory ... had a career-high 10-game hitting streak near the end of the season ... was a combined 6-for-7 in a doubleheader against Air Force (Mar. 8) as he had a double, triple and a leadoff home run in the sixth inning that sparked a Bears come-from-behind victory; for the season hit .647 (11-for-17) with two runs, three doubles, eight RBI and a 1.118 slugging percentage in five games against the Falcons ... was 2-for-3 with a career-high six RBI (two off the school record) in a 20-2 victory over Metro State (Apr. 13) ... hit .126 points higher against right-handed pitchers ... hit .317 (13-for-41) with runners in scoring position ... had 10 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games ... Bears fed off Chacon's success at the plate, as he hit .464 (26-for-56) with four home runs, 24 RBI and 15 walks in the 22 Bears wins in 2005.
2004: Played in seven games, starting four, before suffering season-ending injury against Kansas State ... received medical hardship ... started final four games before getting hurt ... was 2-5 with a run, two doubles and an RBI in 8-6 victory over Metro State (Mar. 2) ... drove in a pair of runs at Mesa State (Mar. 6) in 13-11 Bears' win.
2003: Played in 27 games, starting 13, at third base ... had 11 hits and scored 11 runs during the season ... was 2-4 with an RBI in 11-1 victory over Doane College (Feb. 16) ... scored three runs without an official at-bat by drawing three walks in 15-14 victory at Metro State (Apr. 2).
Prior to UNC: Played two seasons at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo.
High School: 2000 graduate of Valley High ... earned nine total letters in baseball (SS/P), basketball (F) and football (FB/LB) ...baseball team co-captain for two seasons ... two-time baseball all-conference selection and 2000 all-state honorable mention ... team was a state qualifier twice and three-time regional champions ... also earned all-conference basketball and football honors ... was high school student body president and honor roll member ... high school teammate of current Bears' teammate Matt Sutton.
