OREM, Utah – The two baseball teams combined for 14 runs in the first two innings and the 437 fans in attendance settled in for the long haul in the final game of the regular season between Utah Valley and Northern Colorado.

The teams combined for just five runs over the final six innings, however, as the Wolverines (43-12, 28-0 Great West) completed the undefeated conference season with the 10-9 victory.

Senior Casey Coy continued his hot streak, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI and a double to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, while freshman Ryan Yamane went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot.

Sophomore Colby Harrison, senior Adrian Schenk, freshman Jensen Park and junior Derek Baum each had two hits as the Bears (25-31, 15-13 GWC) out-hit the Wolverines 16 to 11.

Freshman Eian Raeber started on the hill for the Bears, giving up seven runs on six hits with two walks in 1.2 innings of work. Sophomore Josh Tinnon threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit with one walk.

Sophomore Michael Wilkes (0-1) gave up the final three runs on four hits with one walk in two innings to take the loss. Senior Cameron Tallman threw one hitless inning, freshman Jess Amedee retired all four batters he faced and Coy threw the final two outs with one strikeout.

Northern Colorado will be the fourth seed in the Great West Conference Tournament beginning on Tuesday and will square off against Houston Baptist in the first round. The Bears and Huskies split the regular season series and the two have never met in the conference tournament.

The Bears scored one run in the top of the first inning. Yamane singled to left, Anderson was hit by a pitch and Coy moved both up 90 feet with a sacrifice bunt. Yamane was plated on a groundout off the bat of Harrison.

Utah Valley immediately answered with back-to-back singles to start the first and a sacrifice fly by Billy Burgess. Goose Kallunki singled through the left side to give the Wolverines the 2-1 lead.

Northern Colorado regained the lead with six runs on five hits with one UVU error. Park led off with a flair to left field and advanced two bases on a failed pickoff move. Hurd walked and both scored on a double to left center by Baum. With two outs, Anderson walked and Coy doubled to left center to plate another pair. Harrison singled through the right side to score Coy and he scored on a double by Schenk for the 7-2 score.

The Wolverines knotted the score with five runs on three hits, including a grand slam by Billy Burgess down the left field line.

Schenk and Park hit back-to-back doubles down the right and left field lines, respectively, to give the Bears the lead in the top of the fourth. Burgess robbed Crudo of a base hit for the second-straight inning, making a diving catch in right field to end the Bears threat with an 8-7 score.

Utah Valley scored three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the 10-8 lead.

Coy singled back up the middle to start the sixth. Schenk walked on four pitches and Crudo singled to third to load the bases. Hurd singled to center to plate Coy to cut the lead in half, 10-9.

Both Tallman and Amedee retired the side in order in the sixth and the seventh innings, while Amedee and Coy combined to retire the Wolverines in order in the eighth to keep the score at 10-9.
