So, I have this friend/roommate/teammate named Josh Boyer. Great kid, but he has one reoccurring problem.

He always spills something on road trips.

And we're not talking just a little splash here or a little splash there. When J-Bone or J.B. (as fellow Bears like to call him) spills something, he really spills something. Thankfully, or, perhaps not, it is a beverage filled to the brim and done at the most inopportune time.

Examples? No problem.

Our Kansas State trip, a few weeks ago: Upon receiving his dinner on the bus ride home, not two bites into his burrito, J.B. knocked his tray table and spilled a 20 ounce Coca-Cola Classic on the floor ... while the bus was going uphill.

Needless to say, bags and feet immediately went up in the air, and a full-out scramble for paper towels commenced. Thankfully, we cleaned the spillage -- actually he cleaned the spillage -- quickly, and no harm was done.

Now, it's not a matter of when spill are going to take place with JB either. Instead, it's how the spills will take place.

His most recent butterfinger incident came during our flight home Sunday night from Houston. J.B., freshman Chris Hammer and senior Chris "Carlton" Carlberg were enjoying some games on Carlberg's phone when much to their surprise, J.B. spilled his complimentary beverage from Southwest.

In the excitement of their intense game of Scramble or Uno or something like that, J.B. exploded his tray table and splashed his drink down his pants. What made it funnier was that he tapped me on the shoulder -- I was sitting in the row in front of him -- and said, "It never fails bro," without missing a beat.

That's J.B.

Fortunately, the spilled refreshment did not make contact with any other Bears, but it definitely left J.B. with wet pants for the rest of the flight. Classic.

Best of luck to you J.B. And may the streak continue, for everyone's sake.

Thankfully for him, the Bears have a homestand over the next few weeks, but I wouldn't be surprised if he still manages to spill a drink or two this week out at 1821 Sixth Avenue.

But I digress. The Bears also played some baseball this weekend, traveling south to Houston for Great West action against Houston Baptist University.

We split with HBU, putting us 4-4 in conference play. Not exactly how we wanted to finish the weekend,  after coming out guns blazing the first two games on Friday and Saturday, beating the Huskies in all facets of the game.

Looking for a sweep of Saturday and a 3-0 series lead, we fought, but came up on the wrong side of the contest, 4-3.

HBU answered back from our two-run first on Sunday with four runs in the frame, and we could not break through and dropped the contest 5-3.

We played the game and approached the game the right way, but could not put a complete game together on Sunday to take the series.

Leaving Houston we know we outhustled the Huskies, especially Nate Steinmetz, who got to  show off his 4.4-40 speed going after foul balls at the backstop.

The Bears are back in action this weekend with a Great West Conference series against Texas-Pan American Greeley. Get out to Jackson Field and support your Bears as we take on a much-improved team looking for payback after our sweep of them last year.

It should be some great baseball.
