About Weld County Food Bank:
Weld Food Bank is a non-profit organization which alleviates hunger and poverty by providing food and services to people in need. We are a private non-profit organization and are not a part of county government.
We work to educate the public about the nature of hunger and poverty. We recognize the need for emergency and supplemental food programs and of other non-profit organizations that meet the critical needs of low-income families. When we provide our services we strive to do so with compassion and respect for the dignity of the people seeking food assistance. Last year we provided over 11.9 million pounds of food to the hungry in Weld County.
In Weld County, one in every eight people go hungry, which equates to 35,600 of our neighbors. Along those same lines, one out of every five children go hungry. Growing up hungry brings with it a lot of disadvantages. Over half the students in Weld County qualify for free or reduced price school meals. Those meals are not accessible over the weekend which leads many of them to show up on Monday mornings with little to no food in their bellies. They often will lack focus and motivation when all they can think about is food. If a child does not get enough nutritious food, they fall behind physically, cognitively, academically, emotionally and socially. They, their families, our communities and our country suffer the life-long consequences of these reduced outcomes.
Weld Food Bank is also a part of Feeding America which is the largest charitable hunger-relief organization in the country addressing the problem of domestic hunger by providing 4 billion meals to 46 million people each year. This accomplishment is due to their nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Feeding America serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
