RENO, Nev. – Junior guard, Anthony Johnson was awarded by conference officials for his on-court performance this season. Johnson was named to the All-Big Sky honorable mention team.
Johnson heads into postseason play as the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.8 points a game and 4.4 rebounds. His performance at the free throw line has also been short of incredible, averaging 85.9%.
His free throw percentage ranks third in the Big Sky and in the Top 50 (37th) in all of the NCAA Division I. He ranks 12th in scoring in the league, 12th in three point field goal percentage and 9th in three pointers made.
This is the second season in a row the Bears have landed someone on the All-Big Sky Honorable Mention team. Last year former guard, Tevin Svihovec was placed on the HM list.
Johnson has scored two 30-point games this season and has six games of 20 points or more. He's reached double digits in 27 of the team's 30 games including a new career-best of 37 that he put up at Eastern Washington back on Feb. 13.
The 37 points were a Division I program single game record for the Bears. He finished the same game 16-of-16, tying the D1 program record for most consecutive free throws made in a game.
The junior is most recently coming off a 29-point performance in the regular season finale at Montana. His 29 points were a game-high and helped lead the team to an upset over the Grizzlies.
Northern Colorado earned the no. 9 seed in the Big Sky Tournament in Reno, Nevada. The Bears will square off against no. 8 Portland State on Tuesday, March 8 at 1:05 p.m. (MT).
The two teams squared off just once during the regular season with the Vikings pulling out an 89-86 win over UNC on a last second three pointer in Greely on Feb. 27.
