@UNCBearsVB Places Four on All-Big Sky Team

Ashley Guthrie, Kortney Lockey, Timarie Nymeyer and Alex Kloehn all earned spots on the 2016 All-Big Sky team
OGDEN, Utah – The Big Sky Conference released its 2016 volleyball All-Conference and individual awards Wednesday afternoon with Northern Colorado placing four players on the All-Big Sky teams. The four players, were Ashley Guthrie (1st team), Kortney Lockey (2nd team), Alex Kloehn (2nd team) and Timarie Nymeyer (2nd team).
Senior setter Ashley Guthrie earned her second straight first team honors, and third All-Big Sky honor overall. She set up the top offense in Big Sky Conference play, as the team finished first in kills (14.53 kps), assists (13.64 aps) and attack percentage (.256). She led the conference in assists individually, with 11.81 assists per set. Guthrie also added on 1.74 digs and 0.48 blocks per set. For the year she is averaging 11.04 sets, 1.15 kills, 1.94 digs and 0.52 blocks per set. She is joins Kelley Arnold and Andrea Spaustat as the only players in the program's history to earn first team All-Big Sky honors at least twice.
For Lockey, Kloehn and Nymeyer this is their first time earning All-Big Sky honors. Lockey played all six rotations for the Bears and chipped in on all aspects of the game. She led the team in kills (2.88 kps) and was second in digs with 3.31. She also added in 10 service aces during conference play.
Alex Kloehn was efficient for the UNC up the middle during conference play, along with bringing a big presences for the team on the block. Her 2.53 kills and . 295 attack percentage ranked fourth on the team in both categories. On the other end of the net, she was a big first line of defense for UNC with a team leading 0.79 blocks per set, including 10 solo blocks.
Timarie Nymeyer was impossible to stop at times on the right side for Northern Colorado opponents, hitting .369 in Big Sky play, to rank second overall in the conference. With the efficient attack she averaged 2.70 kills per set.
For the conference individual awards, a pair of the awards went to North Dakota in MVP to Sydney Griffin and Top Newcomer Tamara Merseli. Northern Arizona's Abby Akin won Outstanding Freshman and Lexie Skalbeck of Sacramento State was named the Libero of the Year.
The four All-Big Sky Bears and their teammates will begin the Big Sky Tournament on Thursday when they take on Idaho State at 3:30 pm Mountain Time. The Tournament is being held at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.
