UNC Partners with Vet Tix for Military Appreciation Day Nov. 12

GREELEY, Colo.- For the first time, the UNC Athletics Department will be partnering with the Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix) to help U.S. servicemen and women, veterans and their families attend Military Appreciation Day when the Bears take on the University of Montana on November 12 at Nottingham Field at noon.

Vet Tix is a non-profit organization that supports the military community by providing tickets to various events and activities to currently serving military, veterans, and their families. They have given away more than 2.27 million event tickets to verified military personnel and their dependents.

According to a 2014 report published by the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, 37,731 Coloradans are classified as active duty military, representing 3.3 percent of the total U.S. active military.

The mission of Vet Tix is to provide tickets to events, which reduce stress, strengthen family bonds, build life-long memories and encourage service members and veterans to stay engaged with local communities and American life. They support U.S. troops by honoring their service and providing positive family and life experiences, during and after their years of service to our country.

Vet Tix is an organization that guarantees all tickets donated by companies or individuals are given to verified soldiers who live in the Greeley area. Those interested in purchasing football tickets for veterans on November 12th can call Jason Malay, Assistant Athletic Director of Revenue Development at 970-351-4409 or the ticket office at 351-4849 or email him at Jason.Malay@unco.edu .

During the game, UNC will also recognize the Robert Longwell Student Veteran of Excellence.

Additionally, the 3rd Annual Military Challenge will also be taking place in the morning of November 12, beginning at 6:45am. The military challenge is an urban-adventure-style race that consists of a 16-stage obstacle course situated across the UNC Campus. Teams competing will work together to navigate a course that tests both physical and mental toughness. All proceeds from the event will support the UNC Student Veteran's Scholarship Fund, established in 2015.
