Adrienne Jordan becomes the first Bear and first Big Sky player to be drafted to the NWSL
GREELEY, Colo. - For the first time since the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) was formed in 2012, Northern Colorado had a player selected in the NWSL Draft Friday afternoon. Senior defender Adrienne Jordan was selected by the Chicago Red Stars in the fourth round.
Jordan was one of seven players drafted to the Red Stars, and one of 40 players drafted overall.
"This is an incredible honor for her," UNC head coach Tim Barrera said, "It's definitely a testament to her hard work the past four years here, and it makes us very proud to see her able to continue her soccer at the next level."
Starting in all 23 games in the Bears' 2015 season, Jordan was a defensive catalyst for the team, helping hold off their opponents to 1.09 goals per game and only a 0.082 shot percentage overall. Jordan played in 72 games in her career on the UNC team, offensively picking up 30 shots on goal and 66 shots overall.
Adrienne was named to the Big Sky All-Conference first team three times in her career, as well as being named to the NSCAA All-Pacific first team in 2014 and second team in 2015. She also added Big Sky Defensive MVP and Big Sky All-Tournament Team honors in 2015.
The NWSL is a professional women's soccer league that is run by the United States Soccer Federation. Formed in 2012, the league currently has ten teams. The NWSL season runs April through August with each team playing 24 regular season games. The Chicago Red Stars, founded in 2007, have the third biggest stadium capacity in the league, holding 20,000 in the Toyota Park.
