Northern Colorado volleyball setter Ashley Guthrie earned Big Sky Player of the Week for November 9-15
OGDEN, Utah – Junior setter Ashley Guthrie earned her third career Big Sky Player of the Week honor Monday afternoon. The conference announced Guthrie as the weekly award winner for the week of November 9-15 in which she helped the Bears go 2-0 and extend their win streak to six.
For the week she averaged 11.77 assists and 4.0 digs over the nine sets that the team played. In both matches she posted double-doubles, making that her sixth and seventh in eight matches. For the season she has 10 double-doubles, one of just 10 players in the conference with that many.
On Thursday against EWU, Guthrie dished 56 assists to go along with a career-high 22 digs as UNC won a thriller in five sets. She added a pair of service aces, three kills and a block, handing the Bears their fourth consecutive win in five sets. She was a huge factor in setting up UNC for 68 kills against an EWU team that ranks third in opponent hitting percentage during conference play.
With the North Division title and No. 2 tournament seed essentially on the line facing Idaho, Guthrie guided UNC with 50 assists and 14 digs to knock off the Vandals in four sets. She chipped in two blocks and three kills to help UNC win their sixth straight match and improve to 10-6 in league play.
Guthrie ranks second in conference play this season with 655 assists and 11.29 per set. She has 1,043 assists on the year for a 10.23 average per set, which sits fifth in the Big Sky in overall play. Her overall assists (79th) and average per set (84th) also ranks in the top 100 nationally.
Led by Guthrie's passing, UNC ranks third overall in the Big Sky in assists and kills per set and also sits fourth in digs. The Bears rank second in assists, kills and digs per set during league play. Despite beating Idaho Saturday, the Vandals still claimed the North Division title after a slim margin in point differential tiebreakers. The defending champion Bears will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Big Sky tournament.
Others Nominated: Katelyn Peterson - Idaho; Hayley Farrer - Idaho State; Hannah Sackett - Montana; Sydney Griffin - North Dakota; Payton Bock - Northern Arizona; Sloan Lovett - Sacramento State; Chennin Benson - Southern Utah
