Northern Colorado Athletics and Bank of Colorado Sign Agreement for Arena Naming Rights

GREELEY, Colo. - Kay Norton, President of University of Northern Colorado and Darren Dunn, Director of Athletics of University of Northern Colorado, are pleased to announce the signing of an agreement with Bank of Colorado to have the naming rights for UNC's arena.

With all the renovations to the Butler-Hancock Athletic Center this summer, the arena will now receive a new name. The gymnasium will officially be titled, "Bank of Colorado Arena at Butler-Hancock Athletic Center" after inking a 15-year partnership with Bank of Colorado.Â

Built in 1974, the arena first opened its doors on Feb. 4, 1975 and has served the men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the Bears volleyball team, and wrestling.

"We are delighted to have Bank of Colorado join us as a partner in making Bank of Colorado Arena a state-of-the-art facility which offers an outstanding experience for our students, fans, friends and neighbors," commented Kay Norton, UNC President.

Bank of Colorado President Shawn Osthoff said, "Bank of Colorado is passionate about serving and giving back to our communities. We know that Bank of Colorado Arena and the partnership with UNC is a natural fit for us and our commitment to higher education."

Northern Colorado's new agreement with Bank of Colorado will run through the year 2029 and will total $1.545 million dollars.

"We are truly thankful to Bank of Colorado for their continued support of UNC athletics and are proud to bear their name in such an important facility," Dunn added. "The generosity of Bank of Colorado will help us to continue to grow, educate, and serve our student-athletes."

The project is one of many in the arena Dunn has spearheaded, with generous community support, to the building since arriving at Northern Colorado in January. The gym now boasts new sports lighting, air conditioning, two state-of-the-art Daktronics video boards, and a new flooring system.

The Butler-Hancock Athletic Center includes: Bank of Colorado Arena, athletic department offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, locker rooms, weight room, and the athletic training center The building is named after longtime UNC coaches Pete Butler and John W. Hancock, continuing an enriched tradition the two names have provided throughout the years.
