Shannon Courtney begins her 18th year as a member of the University of Northern Colorado athletic training staff in 2008-09. After serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for eight years, and an assistant under UNC Athletic Hall of Famer Dan Libera the seven years prior to that, Courtney moved into the role of Curriculum Director for the Department of Sports & Exercise Science and has taken on assistant athletic trainer duties beyond her curriculum duties.
Courtney earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in athletic training and also was a member of UNC's women's tennis team, earning all-conference honors her junior year. She then served as a graduate assistant at UNC, obtaining her master's degree in Kinesiology.
Courtney went on to work for the Denver Broncos Sportsmedicine clinics and also served as an assistant athletic trainer for Colorado College in Colorado Springs before returning to the athletic training staff at Northern Colorado.
Courtney is a certified athletic trainer and also serves as UNC's athletic training program director, educating student athletic trainers. Courtney is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association, and Colorado Athletic Trainers Association.
Courtney and her husband Jay have two boys, Payton, 12, and Corte, 9.
