Scott Ward was promoted to Director of Creative Services in summer 2012 after joining Northern Colorado Athletics in spring 2008 as Assistant Sports Information Director
In his Creative Services role Ward ensures that Northern Colorado Athletics is promoted to the masses via the Web (UNCBears.com) and all other forms of new media -- both existing and emerging. He serves as co-coordinator of UNCBears.com; initiates, manages and oversees all Northern Colorado Athletics' new media ventures (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube); is project manager for all Northern Colorado Athletics graphic design initiatives; and assists in the management of daily operations for the Northern Colorado Athletics Communications office.
Ward came to Greeley in 2008 after serving for nearly three years (2005 to 2008) as an Assistant Sports Editor with Sun Newspapers in Kansas City, Mo.
At the Sun, Ward worked alongside a staff of five writers in the production of multi-award-winning sports sections for six weekly community newspapers. Prior to his time with the Sun, Ward worked as an assistant statistics editor at The Kansas City Star and as a copy editor and page designer at the Columbia Missourian in Columbia, Mo.
In his role as the Bears' Assistant Sports Information Director Ward was the primary media contact for the Bears' volleyball, men's basketball, softball and men's and women's golf programs, while filling in as the secondary contact for Northern Colorado's other 12 athletics programs.
He produced game notes, led the game-day stat crew team and provided Web site coverage for volleyball, men's basketball and softball. He also cultivated relationships with local, regional and national media in addition to producing various publications and marketing materials for the Bears, including Northern Colorado's completely revamped Athletics Recruiting Guide and gameday posters, magnets and autograph pieces.
Ward has also worked with the communication staffs of the United States Golf Association (2011) and USA Basketball (2011) and currently works on the gameday communication staff with the Denver Broncos, where he serves as a pressbox assistant and leads the postgame player and coach quote team.
With the USGA, Ward assisted with Championships Communication during the 2011 U.S. Women's Open in Colorado Springs. In this role he served as a player escort, media liaison, pool reporter and crowd marshal during the five-day event at The Broadmoor.
With USA Basketball, Ward assisted with the USA men's and women's World University Games team training camp at the United States Olympic Training Center, where he kept stats, served as a media liaison and wrote feature stories for the Web site usabasketball.com
Ward graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 2004 from the reknowned Missouri School of Journalism. He and his wife, Sarah, a second-grade teacher in Severance, Colo., live in Greeley with their daughter, Audrey, and beagle, Tober.
