GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Colorado athletics department today announced the hiring of two people to the staff and the promotion of another.
Joe Schaffer, the assistant strength & conditioning coach has been promoted to the director of strength and conditioning, while Chuck Scheinost has been named the men's golf coach and Alyson Aggers has been named an assistant swimming coach.
Schaffer joined the staff in September from Southern Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University in exercise science with a minor in nutrition and master's degree in sports administration from Southern Illinois. He has won three national titles through the World Natural Power lifting Federation. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Sports Performance Coach.
Scheinost joins the Bears from Northern Illinois, where he has been serving as an assistant coach the last two years. While with the Huskies he has been involved in all aspects of the program; coaching, recruiting, fundraising and tournament organization. Prior to Northern Illinois, he was an assistant coach at Lenoir-Rhyne College and spent 2001-03 as the volunteer head coach for the Northern Colorado Junior Golf Tour at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins. He received his bachelor's degree from Hastings College in media production with minors in athletic training and coaching and graduated with his master's degree in sports management from Northern Illinois in 2006.
Aggers was a standout swimmer on the Colorado State team, graduating with her bachelor's degree in health and exercise science in 2006. Since graduating she has been a physical therapist aide in Loveland, as well as a coach on the Loveland Swim Club. She was also the assistant sports camp director at the Loveland Sports Day Camps from May, 2006 through August of this year. Prior to Colorado State, Aggers spent two years on the Northern Arizona swimming & diving team where she lettered both seasons.
